Opportunity Knocks - Information, Advice and Guidance brought to your doorstep!
Opportunity knocks is an initiative that aims to make people of Rochdale’s NRS areas more aware of the guidance, support, financial help and opportunities available to them. Advisors take to the streets calling door to door in order to make services more accessible to local people. By offering a door to door referral system you are dealt with by the appropriate agency that will offer you confidential information, advice and guidance.
The OK multi agency team consists of workers from a range of agencies, The Carers Resource, Rochdale Family Services (formerly known as Childcare Information Services) Connexions, Job Centre Plus, Roftra, Hopwood Hall, Learnlocal, Shaw Trust, Employment Links Partnership and newly recruited Standguide Careers, Standguide – Partners of Etnic Minorites, Supportive Pathways, Work Solutions and Working Links. The team represents such a wide range of services that there’s bound to be valuable information and advice for everyone!
We have successfully covered Smallbridge, Deeplish and Milkstone, Belshill and Cloverhall, Lower Falinge, Brotherod, The Cray, Kirkholt, Newbold and Turf Hill. We are starting Wardleworth and Hamer on Monday 16 July 07. We door knock two days (Monday and Tuesday) every fortnight weather permitting. We are also in the position to offer over the phone referrals.

A member of the Management Team: in charge of IT and project development and jointly responsible, with the other Management Team members, for delivering the strategic and operational goals of the of the organisation. I have many hats but my main duties include the following:
- Develop, review and implement IT strategy.
- Develop, review and implement IT policy including security.
- Develop and maintain communication systems e.g. RoFTRA Update, RoFTRA Update & VCSP electronic Newsletters, Blackberry mobile system, Remote Access System (VPN) etc.
- Management of IT systems and services e.g. Internet, Email, File Management, print, databases etc
- Management of staff including non IT.
- Project Development including obtaining external funding to finance community and office projects e.g. LINC (Learning in Neighbourhood Centres), Connect IT, Change Up (Resource Centre Drop-in) and I have now taken on the remit of helping to develop our excellent Resource Centre.
- Ensure the smooth delivery of ICT to staff and clients.
- Purchasing IT resources and services.
- Establishing agreements with IT suppliers and ensuring delivery.

I manage the development and delivery of RoFTRA's Community Projects, and contribute to RoFTRA’s corporate responsibilities as a member of the Management Team.
I am directly responsible for the delivery of the Community Sports Project which aims to increase opportunities for children and young people on social housing estates to participate in sport and recreation.
I also have project management responsibility for the Kick-Start Football Development project, and line management responsibilities for the Community Youth Workers and Health Trainers.

I am a community Youth Worker covering Cloverhall, Bellshill & Lower Falinge. I work along side the Tenants & Residents Groups and do the following:
- One to one support with young people.
Set up children & young people groups & organize activities.
Liaise with other organizations to benefit the quality of lives in these areas.
I find training opportunities for the community groups I work with: some opportunities have led to paid work.

As from the 30th July I will be based permanetly at Roftra and there will be some changes my role as part of the Community Engagement team. I will be able to offer groups from across the borough with support in delivering, accessing funding and setting up Art’s based projects. These can range from one-off Community Art’s/Fun Days, Consulation events, Issue based projects, such as Young People’s Health Projects and Community Art’s projects as well as providing volunteers with continous support, supervision and training opportuntites.
